Dental Care

Regular dental care is extremely important for your pet. Clean teeth and a healthy mouth do more than just prevent bad breath in your pet. Your pet's dental health has far-reaching effects, and conditions such as periodontal disease can lead to problems with your pet's heart, kidneys and other organs. Proper dental care is a must! Hill Country Animal Hospital offers a complete array of dental care services for your pet, including routine cleanings, extractions and surgery.

Dental Care

Periodontal disease is one of the most common problems that pets experience. By the age of two, more than 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats have some form of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is caused by the buildup of plaque and tartar on your pet's teeth; if left untreated, this can cause bacterial infections that can enter your pet's bloodstream. This bacteria can affect other parts of your pet's body, including the heart, kidneys and liver.

However, peridontal disease is easy to prevent. Routine dental cleanings and home dental care can eliminate the plaque and tartar that eventually lead to gum disease and infections. When it comes to keeping your pet's teeth clean and healthy, prevention and routine key are key.

Your pet's dental cleaning is much different than the same process you undergo at the dentist's office each year. Click here to learn more about your pet's dental cleaning.

Dental care doesn't end at our hospital. A home dental care regimen, including regular brushing, can help prevent plaque and tartar buildup and fight periodontal disease. Our staff can show you how to brush your pet's teeth at home and recommend oral rinses, treats and other products that promote good dental health.
